## What doesn’t require a building permit in Brookline?

Basic cosmetic work doesn’t require a permit unless it involves changes to structure, code-regulated systems, or occupancy.

This includes minor interior finishes, such as painting, tiling, or installing cabinets (if no structural or system modifications are involved).

Projects in owner-occupied single- or two-family homes may be exempt from contractor licensing requirements, though other permitting still applies.

## How to get a building permit in Brookline
